Where I've Been The Past Week....

Hello Everyone,

Some of you may have noticed and some of you may not have, but I haven't been online, whether here, Facebook, Twitter, or Daily Mile (I have spent some time on Google+, I must admit). And that was by design...I needed some time to think to myself.

Last week I happened to look at the palm of my hands and notice quite a number of dark brown spots on my palm. I know my hands and knew that these were new. Which I was suddenly seized with an uncomfortable feeling: The Unknown. I emailed Damary, who helped me find a dermatologist and I called and they booked me for a week later (today), which if anyone who has been a new patient knows being seen this soon is both a blessing and usually a sign of urgency by the Doctor's office.

Now mind you, a couple of weeks prior, I had started feeling crummy. So much so, I had told Damary if I kept feeling this way, I was willingly calling the doc to set up an appointment.

So I went in today, having made the mistake of searching symptoms on the Internet (NOT RECOMMENDED), and ready for whatever the doctor would say. She was very nice, and after checking out my hands, and then a full body scan (wreaked HELL on my low self-esteem/body image problems, but I needed answers), she ordered blood work.

The fact is she thinks it is either Lupus, Rheumatoid Arthritis, an Autoimmune deficiency. She's pretty sure it isn't skin cancer.

This was kind of a lot to handle. To be honest, I expected to walk in there, and she tell me there were just pigmentation changes and I am fine and I was overreacting. But after ten minutes of questions about the spots and what I have known as a birthmark (two light, large patches of skin), I sensed that wasn't going to be the case.

So then I went and they drew blood, so now I wait. The fun part, waiting...On a completely unrelated note, I start training for the two half marathons I plan on doing (two weeks apart) in the fall on Monday. Hey, I need the structure of training to focus my mind.

Thank you so much for your time in reading this.

  7. I've been wondering where you've been buddy!!!! I will add you to my prayer list. I've been kinda silent myself as I'm going through some health issues myself :( We'll get through these "races" in our lives - STRONG! Right?

And wow... I can attest to that - looking up & diagnosing on the internet? WORSE THING EVER!!!!

  8. As someone with an autoimmune disease of 20+ years, I can relate. As annoying as mine is, I'd take it in a heartbeat over some other kind of disease that is debilitating or life-altering. Fortunately, you're in great shape & exercise & you have that on your side. People with autoimmune diseases who aren't active & taking care of themselves are often worse off. I'll be praying that it's something managable. Thanks for the update :o) Focus on that new baby Q & stay positive :o)
